By keeping the hipbones parallel to one another and to the ceiling, the pelvic area is kept in alignment. This helps to remove stiffness in the Lower Back, and Lower Backache. It can help with osteoarthritis of the hip and knee by increasing flexibility and strength in these areas. The sciatic nerve is also affected by tightness in this area, as it runs from the pelvis, through the buttocks, and down through the hamstring muscles. Any movements like this one, that stretch these muscles, can help to relive Sciatic Pain. Lastly this movement can be a great relief for women suffering from Menstrual Discomfort such as cramps and heavy bleeding.
If you suffer from a groin injury take this movement slowly and use plenty of support.
