Benefits:
In Downward Facing Dog, the head is lower than the heart. This allows the brain to be bathed in freshly oxygenated blood, nourishing the brain tissue. Fresh blood supply to the brain helps with mental clarity, hormonal balance and gently stimulates the nerves. On a purely physical level, Downward Facing Dog stretches the entire back body, especially the arms, shoulders, spine, hips hamstrings, calves and Achilles tendon. While the back body is being stretched, the front body, triceps, core stabilizers, quadriceps and shin flexors are being toned. On an emotional level this movement can relieve feelings of anxiety and stress.
Contraindications:
Avoid this movement if you have carpal tunnel syndrome, diarrhoea. If you are pregnant practise these movements with blocks under your hands. If you have Low Blood Pressure come back to standing slowly.
Description:
Beginners flowing from one pose to another pose using the breath and then holding the pose. Good to learn how to feel how the body is moving.
