To create this mudra simply press the palms of your hands firmly together at the heart centre with the fingers pointing up and the thumbs touching the sternum. Allow the head to bow gently keeping the spine erect and the head in alignment with the spine. This mudra neutralizes the positive and negative sides of the body and balances yin and yang for centering. This position is often done before starting a yoga class and again upon completion. In firmly pressing the palms together, we connect the two hemispheres of the brain bringing them into balance. The right hand is controlled by the left hemisphere of the brain and the left hand by the right hemisphere. In joining the hands together a closed criss-cross circuit is created where an equally distributed brain stimulation can generate mental balance. Used repetitively over time our ability for relaxed concentration increases and allowing us to develop deeper connection with our higher self. As a hindu salutation, this position says “the divine in me honours the divine in you” or “the light in me reflects the light in you” This mudra therefore brings focus to the heart centre, our seat of emotion, love and compassion and tunes the mind to centeredness, love and balance. As a gesture this mudra symbolizes Oneness and the bringing together of duality. Use it for any kind of meditation and feel the balance it brings to your place of centre.
